A brief summary of the courses making up the Academy modules.

DANCE AWAKE COMPONENT

Living Room Dances

The Living Room Dances (LRD)  are 45 minute guided conscious dance practices with music. They can be done anywhere anytime.

A regular LRD practice will expand your awareness. It will help keep you fit, flexible and healthy. Assisting in bringing physical, mental and emotional well being. A regular mindful movement practice will enrich your life!

Each module of LRD follows a theme. There are 6 dance practices per module. The first five practices explore the theme through one of the five main movement styles namely: somatic, expressive, ecstatic, shamanic and invocatory. The sixth practice is an un-facilitated mix for your to explore the theme more personally.

LRD’s are for all levels of experience. Everybody is welcome! Dance once/twice or as many times a week as you would like. You can also repeat the practices as often as you like.

Body Awareness 

Each module of the  Body Awareness (BA) course consists of 5 guided movement practices of 15 minutes each. They are set to music. The  BA course is based on the map of the 5 dimensions of awareness. Exploring the human body by expanding our awareness of these dimensions through movement.

The dimensions are the physical, mental, energetic, psychic and subtle.

These short practices provide a means of checking in and discovering where you are at in the moment. They are grounding  and will leave you feeling relaxed, focused, and creative.

They compliment the conscious dance journey by allowing you to take time to explore subtle aspects of the work and then taking it into your life. Each module will explore these dimensions from different angles in these guided movement practices.

Elemental Awareness

Each Module of the Elemental Awareness (EA) course consist of 5 guided movement practices around 15 minutes each. Set to music, they are based on exploring the map of the 5 elements. Earth, water, fire, air and ether. Each element gives rise to different tones, textures and sensations. They also create different movements and ways of moving. The practices are a way of discovering, exploring and expanding our awareness of these elements. 

These short practices provide a means of checking in and discovering where you are at in the moment. They are grounding  and will leave you feeling relaxed, focused, and creative.

They compliment the conscious dance journey by allowing you to explore subtle aspects of the work and taking it into your life. Each module will explore the elements from different angles in these guided movement practices.

AWAKE HUMAN BEING COMPONENT

Movement Expeditions

These are guided practices range from 15 to 45 minutes each. Each module consists of 5 practices that will explore different aspects of movement and awareness. The movements will begin in stillness and end in stillness. They are guided but not set to music.

Each time you practice one of the sessions from this course you will discover subtle aspects of yourself and being, through exploring sensations, feelings, and movements within your body.

Breathe Easy 

This course is designed to systematically explore our breathing and the energy and vitality that is directly tied to our breathing patterns. Starting with simple observation of our breathing patterns, over the season we will go deeper and deeper into everything related to this cycle and even find ways of using breath to enhance our movements, health and wellbeing

Each module consists of 5 breathing practices of 15-20 minutes each that will explore various aspects of our breath. Discovering how we can then play with it and use it as a tool to deepen our awareness, and enhance our connection and experience of life.

Deep Relaxation

As humans our natural state of being is one of relaxation. This state is not resting, or vegging out in front of the screen. It is a state of alert focused ease that is free of any tension and mental disturbance. Most of us need to be reminded of what this state feels like as our modern lifestyle often leads to the opposite experience of stress and unease.

The Deep Relaxation course contains practices where we experience a moment of deep relaxation. With regular practice we become familiar once again with the feeling tone of this state of being. It will allow us to navigate back to it faster when we lose it.

Each module will contain one short (15min)  and one longer (30 minute) guided practice of deep relaxation.

Meditation & Mindfulness 

This course teaches the art of meditation and mindfulness is a systematic way that ensures that the usual pitfalls of meditation are avoided. Starting with learning to be still in our bodies and to experience stillness, we will learn to be less pulled and reactive to the world. As the course unfolds over the modules you will establish yourself as a meditator and experience all the benefits this entails.

Each module contains a short (15 minute), medium (25min) and long (45 minute) version of the meditation practice. They also contain mindfulness practice and a little theory to help one understand the practice.

Action

There is no point in committing to regular practices that help you to understand and connect  to your inner self, without the ability to take this into grounded and effective action in the world.

This course looks at various ways in which we use the external world, our relationships, our work and all our doing in the world. As many of us spend more than half our lives in the workplace and interacting with the world. This course helps us use this time as a means to awaken.  At the same to uplift the world with our service and action. In this way it becomes a win-win. 

This course balances all the inner work of the other courses and makes it all meaningful as if all that effort is just for oneself it loses its meaning.

Bonus Courses and Content

Bonus Courses

Some modules will include additional courses and bonus material. In module one we include the Introduction to Dance Awake course. This course is for both new and old students of conscious dance and goes through the guidelines and methodology of conscious dance. This will enable you to access the maximum benefit from all the other courses that work with the practice of conscious dance. The course also gives people a framework to move in any conscious dance space or in fact use any dance as a means to awaken. 

Module Study Guides

(Awake Human Being Component Only) 

As there is a large amount of course material and practices available in each module, a study guide is included for each module. The guide  suggests a systematic daily practice regime that draws from all the course material over an eight week period.

Working through the study guide will ensure you will cover all the material and get the most out of the academy. The study guide will keep you on track and progressing.
